Maat Chandra Barber El Bey, artistically known as, AGodess. 
AGodess is a singer, songwriter, performer and recording artist, known for her melodious and dynamic voice that energizes the soul of her listeners. 

 

AGodess uses her music as a platform as a catalyst to serve and inspire by singing about her truth and truths that ladies of all eras can relate to.
Born and reared in Englewood, Chicago to a Jamaican mother AGodess developed deep reggae musical roots.  As a child she grew up listening to artist like Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Maria Carey grounding her love for music in R&B.  

 

As a niche, AGodess honors her island roots by blending  modern millennium sounds which infuses Reggae and Afro beats with R&B, Pop, and Rock. Her desire is to “crossover” and have an international appeal.  

 

AGodess has worked with international the legends and Grammy award winning producers Sly and Robbie. She has performed on shows with headliners like Beenie Man, Luciano and Capleton.  AGodess has opened up for the Dancehall Queen, Patra as well as Chicago’s own Crucial Conflict.  She caught the interest and attention of Grammy nominated Michael Franti &Spearhead, which led to AGodess hitting the road on his “Love out Loud” tour performing with him.  AGodess also co wrote and performed on his Love out Loud Volume 2 album, released in Jan. 2019 on the song “Enjoy Every Second”. 

 

Simply put, AGodess's music speaks to the heart of life where fun, love, joy, pain and healing all lives. She is outspoken and contoversal and her music reflects that along with her captivating voice and her effortless ability to write lyrics that connect to her audience makes her and her message irresistible. In addition to that, she embodies a magnetic beauty, and body moving performances which is all together the formula for super star.

 

The future is looking very bright for AGodess. AGodess has several songs released on all music streaming platforms. The most recent is "You(Mama)" which is a dedication song during covid.  She is currently working on her album set to be released Summer 2023 entitled, "Chapter 7 SelfCare".
